“He told us that he was very happy at Anderlecht, that the club has been magnificent with him since his arrival, but it was time to prove himself at the highest level.
To prove his loyalty to the club and to finish the job, he and his team mates started in 2011, he will stay until the end of the season.
However, he also confirmed to us that he has signed a not so “secret” pre contract with Arsenal for the summer. “
The transfer is for an alleged £5.8 million which is a great piece of business by Arsene Wenger once again as Suarez, a versatile forward who can play anywhere in a front three has been in prolific form this season, scoring 14 goals and assisting 9 times in 21 games as well as being the top scorer in the Europa League. As described by Perez, “Suarez is a creative striker that can also play wide and he operates in the same areas as van Persie. He is very skillful with the ball at his feet, has an eye for goal, a powerful and accurate right foot, but also uses well his left. He is capable of a strong strike from great distance one minute and trying a chip the next.“
The pre-contract agreement favours Arsenal in many ways:
Arsenal have secured a player that they wanted. Arsenal have the right to not take up the contract if the player either gets injured or has a dip in form to an unsatisfactory level. There are no clauses or rights for Anderlecht and the player to change their minds. So for example, if Matias has an even better second half to the season, they can not ask for more money or higher salary or sell him to another club. Arsenal have plenty of time to apply for a work permit, however they are confident to get one through a panel.
Perez also stated that the deal will not be officially announced until later on in the season, as there are still a few bits and pieces that need to be ironed out and that Arsenal wanted him to move during the January transfer window, but will be happy to have reached a compromise that sees them securing a player they have admired and watched many times last year.
Though it’s disappointing that we’ll only get to see Suarez at the Emirates Stadium in the summer, it’s great to know that we have a talented player in the making ready to grace Arsenal and one who wants to be at the club as he has allegedly rejected higher money offers from Galatasaray & Marseille. Arsenal fans will be hoping that he is brought in to play alongside van Persie and not as his replacement.
