At the start of July, Arsenal fans were experiencing a time of excitement, with the signings of Higuain, Fellaini, and Rooney looking imminent. Things haven’t quiet gone according to plan for the North London club; the appalling inability to close out transfers has really hurt Arsenal and their ambitions for the future. There was a lot expected from Arsenal in the transfer window this time around, with a reported budget of around £100 million, together with the board’s open endorsement of big money signings, giving the fans and players a lot of hope....

Emery was dismissed on Friday, less than 12 hours on from the Gunners’ 2-1 Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in front of a sparse Emirates Stadium crowd. Arsenal fans had grown increasingly frustrated with displays under Emery, who oversaw only one win in nine matches in all competitions prior to his dismissal. Parlour, a three-time Premier League winner with the London club, felt the Frankfurt loss was “the final straw” when it came to the under-fire head coach’s future....

Yet, there is still the unsolved matter of players feeling unsettled. Mesut Ozil has been on the negative side of things since before the season started, both from club fans and country. It is possible that everything going on can unsettle him and trouble him psychologically. At least that’s what it’s beginning to look like, with Potomac reporting interest from Fenerbahce, and this wouldn’t be the first time Ozil is being targeted by the Turkish club....

The words of Arsene Wenger will be music to the ears of Arsenal fans. Alexis Sanchez was directly involved in 45 goals in 51 appearances for the Gunners last season (30 goals, 15 assists) and his return to the squad against Liverpool on Sunday is a welcome boost at just the right time. The defeat at Stoke City once again exposed Arsenal’s problems in defence and while Alexis is unable to resolve those issues, his prolificacy in attack makes him the biggest threat for Wenger’s men at Anfield....

World football’s governing body FIFA registered a patent for the mascot on the European Union’s trademark website OHIM Tuesday, just days after the design was shown on Brazilian TV show Fantastico, reports Xinhua. The Tolypeutes tricinctus, or tatu-bola as it is known in Portuguese, is an endangered mammal native to Brazil....

Jerry Holliman, 69, told the Clarion Ledger that he was in his room at the Veterans Home in Collins, Mississippi just a couple days before Christmas when a man walked in and took away his prosthetic limbs. According to Holliman, the VA said it would not cover the cost of the limbs, while Medicare said there’d be a copay required. “Medicare did not send me to Vietnam,” Holliman, who received Bronze Stars in both wars in which he served, told the Ledger in an article published Thursday....

Palmer, the sport’s most revered figure, died late on Sunday from complications due to a heart condition. He was 87. The winner of 62 career PGA Tour titles, including seven major championships, Palmer rose from modest roots in the US state of Pennsylvania to become a towering figure with appeal that transformed and transcended the sport of golf. “We have lost a great friend and giant in our sport tonight with the passing of Arnold Palmer,” PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem was quoted as saying on its official website....

White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients said around 10 million doses of the vaccine have already been produced, but have yet to pass the FDA review to “meet its expectations for product quality.” The AstraZeneca vaccine is in widespread use around the world, and could be approved in the U.S. in the next several weeks. Some 50 million additional doses are in various stages of production, and could be ready to ship in May and June if the FDA gives its approval....

Detective Robert Redanauer, 51, was arrested on Tuesday on four charges stemming from the December 27, 2020, incident, according to court records. A 30-year veteran of the force, Redanauer was suspended for 30 days, and the department intends to dismiss him at the end of his suspension. While off duty, Redanauer grabbed a handgun from a dresser in a woman’s bedroom and pointed it at two males, according to the Philadelphia Police Department....

So it is that time of the year again, with all the big names buzzing around the market. News is being created everyday with possible transfer talks and amidst all speculations, the usual big clubs are there, calling bids worth astronomical figures to capture players; however, the one team which is creating quite a stir is the most silent sitters of all time- Arsenal. It is quite amazing to see this team being associated with deals worth millions, and Monsieur Wenger not really denying any of those link ups....

The Morocco international has been in inspired form since joining Inter Milan from Real Madrid last summer. According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are preparing a bid in the region of €50 million for Achraf Hakimi. The Gunners have shown signs of improvement under Mikel Arteta this season but are still a couple of signings away from challenging for the Champions League places. Club great Ljungberg was placed in temporary charge after Unai Emery was sacked on Friday, the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss paying the price for a winless run of seven matches in all competitions. Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt saw a sparse Emirates Stadium crowd boo their team once more and Ljungberg knows a key part of his role is to bring back a semblance of a feelgood factor – starting with Sunday’s trip to Norwich City....

The 31-year-old said, “I want the fans to remember me as a player who wore the Real shirt with pride.” He is under a contract with Jose Mourinho’s side until 2015. With Arsenal pushing for a big name star to come in, Iker Casillas seems a perfect choice for them. However, the Spanish No.1 would cost them £17million.
